European integration process is now extremely fragile, ex-ambassador

The European integration process is extremely fragile at present. Following the statements made by the government and its behavior, this process became more fragile than in other periods, Moldova’s former ambassador in Bucharest Iurie Reniță was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

“The European Parliament’s decision, the statements made by Missis Mogherini and Commissioner Hahn are very trenchant and clear: “don’t think you are eligible already for European integration if you made some changes and did some technical reforms, eliminating the political aspects from obligations”. This is fundamental,” stated the ex-ambassador.

According to Iurie Reniță, the political criteria and conditions in the relationship with the EU are key, being followed by the technical, financial and social ones. If it’s not a credible partner and does not meet the political conditions, the Republic of Moldova should not expect to receive the €100 million in macro-financial assistance. “The EU was the most generous international institution that maintained and financially injected the Republic of Moldova,” he said.

As regards the upcoming parliamentary elections set for February 24, the former ambassador said the Republic of Moldova didn’t reach the stage of consolidated democracy or veritable credibility to be able to implement the current electoral system.
