Pavel Filip: As a citizen, I consider Shor should stay in jail

Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor should stay in jail. He noted he wants to start with the fact that he has confidence in the courts of law and prosecutors. The Premier made such statements in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

The official said he never asked to examine the case of Ilan Shor. “I start with the fact that there is goodwill in this system and I think the necessary explanations will be provided sooner or later,” he stated.

“I’m sure we will all learn soon why they act one way or another. I even created a platform called “Committee for the Examination of Loud Cases” where we invite everyone to discuss on the same dimension and level, and we had judges and prosecutors there too.”

Ilan Shor was sentenced to 7.5 years in jail for raising over 5 billion lei from Banca de Economii that he later laundered through his offshore firms. The mayor of Orhei, who pleads not guilty and is not held on remand, is waiting for the judgement of the Cahul Appeals Court.
