Video cameras could be set up in polling places so as to ensure a transparent electoral process that would eliminate any concern, Prime Minister Pavel Filip suggested in a meeting with members of the Central Election Commission, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.
The discussions centered on the actions that need to be taken by the Government to ensure a free, fair and transparent electoral process. “We see particular concerns about the upcoming elections and wanted to make sure that the Government did everything possible and does what it can yet do for the parliamentary elections to be free, fair and transparent,” stated Pavel Filip.
The Premier proposed examining the possibility of installing video cameras in polling places. There was underlined the importance of ensuring transparency and secrecy of voting and protection of personal data. “We all want correctitude. We should now allow any element that would generate concerns,” stated Pavel Filip.
He confirmed the Government’s and State Chancellery’s readiness to contribute to providing the areas needed to establish polling places. There was underlined the necessity of outfitting the polling places with ramps for persons with disabilities, which is the responsibility of the local public authorities.
The Government will request the National Agency for Energy Regulation to check the power supply networks and the National Regulatory Agency for Information and Communication Technology to make sure the Internet connection is at the appropriate parameters all over the country. The Special Telecommunications Center, which was recently reorganized and became the only public institution responsible for cybersecurity, to take all the measures for the information system “Elections” to have well-secured and fully functional communication channels.
Two national election campaigns will take place in Moldova in 2019: parliamentary elections on February 24 that will be organized for the first time based on the mixed system and local general elections on June 14.
