The leader of the Shor Party Ilan Shor, mayor of Orhei, was fined for using foreign funds in the election campaign based on a decision passed by the Centru branch of the Chisinau City Court.

Ilan Shor didn’t attend the hearing and didn’t provide evidence to deny the accusations. The decision can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court during 15 days. Contacted by IPN, the party’s spokeswoman Alina Șargu said the defense will appeal the decision.

The sentence was pronounced following a complaint filed by the president of the National Unity Party Anatol Șalaru, who in summer requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to determine if the Shor Party tried to hide or hid the identity of persons who made donations to it in the campaign prior to the Chisinau local mayoral elections. Anatol Șalaru said then that Ilan Shor spent money he received from Moscow and this fact was confirmed by the court of law that excluded the party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Reghina Apostolova from the race.
