Irina Vlah: Government of Moldova makes a mistake by not paying attention to Gagauzia

The New Governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah plans to transform her inauguration into a large-scale ceremony that will involve senior Moldovan officials. She made such an announcement in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

Irina Vlah said that this way she intends to make the Moldovan leadership visit Comrat and meet with the people of Gagauzia. “It is for the first time in Moldova’s history that the Bashkan is elected by the first round. I decided that the inauguration set for April 15 will not take place in a closed circle. The ceremony will be held in the Victory Square in central Comrat so that all those who want can take part. I invited the whole Cabinet, the MPs, the administration of Parliament and the head of state. President Nicolae Timofti never visited the autonomous unit. Some of the people in Gagauzia do not know at least the name of the President, not speaking about how he looks like. That’s why the ceremony to inaugurate the Bashkan will be an occasion for the Gagauz people to meet with the head of state,” she stated.

Irina Vlah denied Speaker Andrian Candu’s assertion that she is not really pro-Russian. “I’m a pro-Russian politician and I represent the interests of the Gagauz people who are mainly pro-Russian. But I will make effort to have a constructive relationship with the Moldovan authorities. As a member of the Government, I will do my best for the Gagauz issue to be included in the agenda more often. The Government of Moldova makes a big mistake by not paying appropriate attention to the Gagauz autonomous unit,” she said.
