Polish Film Days CinePolska in Chisinau

The Polish Film Days CinePolska will take place in Chisinau between November 20 and 25. In the period, the moviegoers will be able to see six movies made during the last two years, which were awarded at important festivals and appreciated by the public. They all focus on freedom, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Polish Institute of Bucharest, the event is held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of communism. The slogan of the event in Central Europe is “Films about freedom”.

The festival will be opened by the famous black-and-white movie “Ida”, which received over 40 awards. It is about a young Jewish nun and her confrontations with the family’s past, when she meets her aunt – a Communist prosecutor.

“To want to live” will take the spectators into the world of a young man who, suffering from cerebral palsy, teaches those around what it is like to live a really free life. “Baby blues” is a humorous story about a teen mother who learns what responsibility is, but keeps yet the joy of life. Good mood is guaranteed by the movie “A ticket to the moon”, which is a story about maturation in Poland in the 1960s. The last movie about freedom – “In the name” – presents the story of a catholic priest who falls in love with a young man who was under his guardianship.

The Polish Film Days are staged by the Polish Institute of Bucharest and the Association of Polish Filmmakers, with the support of the Polish Film Institute. The movies will be shown at the Odeon Movie Theater in Chisinau starting at 7pm. They are subtitled in Romanian, while two of them also in Russian.

Tickets to the screenings cost 25 lei.
