Three persons, two of whom are police officers, were arrested on suspicion that they smuggled goods to the value of 1.5 million lei that were bought at “KM7” market in Ukraine’s Odessa. The consumer goods were smuggled through the Transnistrian region and were stored in settlements of the Security Zone. From there, the goods were taken to the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities of Moldova by using fake license plates and by avoiding internal checkpoints, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, two minibuses by which the contraband was carried were confiscated. The fourth member of the group, who is also an employee of the Ministry of the Interior, fled to the Transnistrian region and is to be put on the wanted list. Immediately after the arrests, the police carried out 12 searches at a number of addresses in the country.
Financial investigations will be conducted in parallel. The suspects are to be indicted.
