Policeman suspected of smuggling drugs under arrest

A police officer of the Buiucani Police Inspectorate was arrested on suspicion that he, together with other persons, smuggled drugs into Moldova. If this is found guilty, he will serve three to ten years in jail and will be fined 300,000 to 550,000 lei, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the police officer in 2014-2015, by prior agreement and in concert with two persons who were identified and other persons who haven’t been yet identified, received drugs from several individuals near the Romanian town Iasi. The drugs included about 1 kg of amphetamine, approximately 150 grams of hashish and ecstasy pills. It is alleged that the policeman hid the drugs in his car and smuggled them into Moldova through the Leuseni-Albita customs post.

On March 6, the police carried out searches in the office, car and at the home of the police officer. There were seized a number of notebooks and drafts. The policeman was arrested for 72 hours.
