A police officer died after he was hit by a car on the M-1 road near Cristești village of Nisporeni district on January 20, IPN reports.

According to the police, the 24-year-old man was on leave and was walking from Leușeni to Chisinau by he left side of the road. At a moment, he was struck at high speed by a car driven by a man aged 33 from Ivanovca village of Hâncești district. He died as a result of his injuries.

The policeman had worked for the Escort Service of the Nisporeni Police Inspectorate since 2016.

The preliminary examinations showed the driver was speeding. He was arrested for 72 hours and faces three to seven years in jail.
