The policeman involved in the October 2023 road accident near the airport, which resulted in the death of two people who were traveling by a motorcycle, will be tried. According to prosecutors, when he left the secondary road, the officer of the National Public Security Inspectorate turned on the light signal without legal reasons, not yet the car’s sound signal. Subsequently, he continued his way with the police car without stopping at the priority sign STOP and collided with the motorcycle that was moving towards Sângera town, IPN reports.

The accident occurred on October 21, 2023, at midday. The officer was on duty and was to ensure public order close to the Chisinau International Airport. Traveling by a Toyota Land Cruiser, he set off from the airport and was going to cross Dacia Boulevard.

Being on the road without priority, he turned on the light signal without legal grounds, not yet the car’s sound signal and did not stop at the STOP mandatory sign. When crossing the lane, he hit the BMW motorcycle moving towards Sângera. Following the impact, the motorcycle caught fire and the driver and his female passenger died on the spot.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the defendant pleads not guilty. He faces a jail term of at most 10 years and ban on driving.
