Policeman held in Transnistria in inhuman conditions for three years

A Hagimus sector police officer of the Causeni Police Commissariat has been held by the unconstitutional authorities of the Transnistrian region in inhuman and degrading conditions for almost three years, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a special edition of the publication Newsletter, issued by Promo-LEX Association. According to Promo-LEX, in July 2007 Alexandru Ursu bought an apartment in Bender town. In several days, he was arrested by Bender militiamen and accused of using forgeries and of swindle when purchasing the apartment. Alexandru was taken to the basement of the remand unit of the militia station of Bender. He has been maltreated, humiliated and forced to admit his guilt from the very first day. He refused to incriminate himself and was thus beaten until he lost consciousness. Promo-LEX said the policeman wasn’t allowed to hire a lawyer, while the ‘hearings’ were closed. On May 19, 2010, the so-called court of Bender district sentenced Alexandru Ursu to 15 years in jail and ordered confiscating his property, even if the prosecutor asked for 12 years’ imprisonment. In 2010, relatives of the police officer informed Promo-LEX about this case and the association’s jurists notified the Ministry of the Interior of Moldova of it. The association stated that the local and central constitutional authorities of Moldova so far made only vague statements, showing that they do not even know about this case.
