An operational officer of the Telenesti Police Inspectorate was sentenced to five years in jail for abusing power by using violence. He was also found guilty on other counts, but the cases on these were dropped because the statute of limitations expired.

According to prosecutors, the policeman in 2008 – 2011 committed a number of offenses, including abuse of power, threatening of a person holding a responsible post, interference in justice and use of torture.

After this found out the sentence, the convict managed to flee before the escort came after him. If he does not present himself voluntarily, he will be put on the wanted list.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
