A prosecution officer of the Edinet Police Inspectorate is suspected of asking 8,000 lei from a colleague of his for not holding him accountable for driving under the influence, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center, when the police officer was caught red-handed, he tried to get rid of the money and threw it out through the window. He faces up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 lei for passive corruption. He will also be banned from holding particular posts for a period of up to five years.
Twelve police officers have been investigated for committing acts of corruption so far this year.
