A 42-year-old officer of the National Police confirmed with COVID-19 died last night, leaving two children behind.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the officer had worked in the police force since 1997. He was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago, but the virus led to complications of his diseases and he could not be saved.

So far, 238 employees of the Ministry contracted the novel coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 11,700 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova by June 14. Almost 2,000 of those infected are healthcare worker.

As many as 417 infected patients are in a serious state and 24 of them were put on a ventilator.

The death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 408.
