Police will intensify minibus inspections

The police during inspections found out that the minibus drivers work outside regular hours and drive while being overtired. Some of them do not have driving experience, while others committed accidents earlier. The units of transport are not repaired on time, being used old or even counterfeit spare parts. Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean told a news conference that the police will intensify inspections, IPN reports.

The minister said that on July 14, when the minibus drivers resumed work after staging protests, the police imposed dozens of fines for violating the traffic rules and passenger transportation rules. “I call on the people to be patient as these inspections are needed to make the drivers more disciplined and to avoid tragedies,” stated Dorin Recean.

He noted that the Chisinau City Hall wants to shift the blame for the crisis in the public transport sector onto the police. “If following this logic, in Chisinau it rains heavily, the attic-like apartments burn and fatal accidents happen by political order,” said the minister.

Dorin Recean stated that about 40 people have died in road accidents involving passenger minibuses since 2010. The minibus drivers were to blame in all the cases.
