Police watch over state border

President Nicolae Timofti, Head of Parliament Igor Corman and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca ordered that the police supervise the situation at the state border with maximum attention and continue to take the measures needed to ensure public order inside the country, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service.

The instructions were given in a meeting of the state administration and representatives of the police force, which was convened to discuss the internal situation following the latest developments in the region.

Nicolae Timofti, Igor Corman and Iurie Leanca expressed their concern about the worsening of the security climate in the region as a result of the escalation of the violent clashes in Ukraine.

The Moldovan authorities offered their condolences to the entire Ukrainian people, the families and close relatives of the victims of the tragic events in Odessa, Slavyansk and other settlements of Ukraine, which resulted in dozens of deaths.

Moldova confirmed its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and expressed its confidence that the efforts made by the Ukrainian authorities and the international players will lead to the improvement of the situation and the establishment of constitutional order, peace and security in the neighboring country.

About 300 persons suffered injuries and more than 40 died in a fire in the Trade Unions House in Odessa last week.
