The police received in the first half of the day over 50 complaints of electoral violations. The incidents mainly involved unauthorized placement of election signage and attempts to snapshot the ballots, and at an Ialoveni polling place a stamp was stolen. This was communicated by Patrolling Inspectorate chief Marin Maxian at a press briefing.
Maxian said that in the latter case the person was identified and the stamp returned where it belonged.
Other incidents involved vandalizing of campaign posters and aggressive behaviors shown to electoral officials or among political supporters.
Maxian went on to add that the police received a complaint from the Central Election Commission that people were being brought in an organized manner and paid to vote. “Creating conditions for voters to reach the polling stations does not amount to a violation, but offering remuneration for voting for a candidate or another certainly does”, said Maxian, adding that investigations were ongoing.
The police together with the National Road Transport Agency also documented at least ten instances of voters being transported by unauthorized carriers, who now face up to 25,000 lei fines.
There were cases where campaign-related tents or other temporary structures were installed near polling places, and the police decided to remove all those located closer than 100 meters form the stations in order to ensure equal conditions.
“Let me assure you that the police have reacted to all complaints or acted ex officio”, stated Maxian.
