The police have seized over 2,000 bottles of counterfeit brands of cognac which were supposed to hit shops, markets and restaurants ahead of the winter holidays, IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Police Directorate, the suspects are two Chisinau men, 34 and 58. The alcohol found during the search was seized and sealed for subsequent testing and criminal proceedings were initiated against the men. They face fines ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 lei and confiscation of the production.

The Chisinau police are advising the public to buy alcoholic beverages only in authorized markets.
