The reported sequestration of MP Ştefan Gaţcan, who renounced the seat of MP on July 1, wasn’t confirmed, press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati has told IPN.
Natalia Stati avoided saying who informed the police about the disappearance of Ştefan Gaţcan, invoking the law on personal data protection. As regards the video where Ştefan Gațcan says that he is fine, the press officer said the police are examining all the evidence in this case, including the given video.
The leadership of the Pro Moldova Party in a press beefing said they will demand in Parliament that a parliamentary commission of inquiry be set up to investigate the case of Ştefan Gaţcan. In another briefing, Socialist MP Vlad Bătrîncea said he had a civilized discussion with Ştefan Gaţcan and together agreed a plan that is to be implemented. They will provide more details at the right moment and will inform about the circumstances that made the MP act as he acted. “We asked for state guard for him as we know that he is exposed to particular danger,” noted the Socialist MP.
Ștefan Gațcan was elected MP in constituency No. 38 Hâncești, where he ran on behalf of the PSRM, on March 15 this year. On June 30, Ștefan Gațcan announced his decision to defect from the Socialist parliamentary group to the Pro Moldova group. In a press briefing, he said his decision was a personal one and wasn’t influenced by anyone. He urged his former colleagues not to launch attacks on him, his relatives and friends in order to make him change his mind. On his Facebook page, he wrote that the interminable political struggles, serious management mistakes, unprofessional decisions, lack of courage and even acceptance of fakes in the management of the COVID-19 crisis made him distance himself from those actions. On July 1, Ștefan Gațcan handed over his resignation from the post of MP. The Party of Socialists issued a press release, saying Ștefan Gațcan remains part of the PSRM’s team and will be actively engaged in the work of the party’s social group so that he uses his professional experience in drafting bills related to the health policies. Pro Moldova said the MP was abducted.
