Police reform kicks off in right direction, CReDO
The intentions of reforming the police system are good and the first steps are made in the right direction, the director of the Resource Center for Human Rights CReDO Sergiu Ostaf has told Info-Prim Neo.
“We have 3-4 draft laws concerning the police. The plan of actions for police reform stipulates the elimination of sentinel and public order patrol service by delegating these competences to the carabineers”, said Sergiu Ostaf.
The reform proposal includes the depoliticization and demilitarization of the central police body. Sergiu Ostaf expects the first results to be felt by the end of the year when amendments are adopted.
The reform plan has 8 stages and aims to fulfill Moldova’s commitments under the National Program of implementing the Moldova-EU plan of actions for visa regime liberalization.
The main goal is for the Ministry of the Interior and its subordinated institutions to provide quality services, to create a simple and accessible service system and to develop a proper and sustainable method of raising employees’ wages.
