Police receive equipment to make bullet replicas

The General Police Inspectorate’s forensic laboratory has received modern equipment for replicating bullets and cartridge cases.

The Police said in a press release that the equipment will be particularly useful in investigating transnational crimes involving firearms. An accompanying application will make it easier for Moldovan forensic experts to exchange ballistic data with colleagues from abroad and search the Interpol databases.

At institutional level, the project aims to improve operative cooperation. The Police together with the Prosecutor General’s Office will be able to send replicas of bullets and casings found at crime scenes for verification to any country around the world.

The innovation is one of the main objectives of the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) Project, an organization working under the mandate of United Nations Development Program.
