Before selling alcoholic beverages to young people, the seller must mandatorily check the identity cards of these. The sale of alcoholic drinks after 7pm should be banned. As regards strong alcoholic drinks, these could disappear from the shelves of food stores and could remain only in specialized shops. The measures were proposed by the General Police Inspectorate so as to reduce the alcohol abuse that generates most of the offenses, IPN reports.

“Alcoholism is a serious societal disease. It destroys families and destinies and makes some become victims, while others offenders,” stated Marin Maxian, head of the Inspectorate’s General Public Security Division.

An interactive map of the consequences of alcohol consumption on Moldova’s territory will be posted on the website of the General Police Inspectorate and anyone could see it. Once in half a year, the map will be updated. “This map will help us see in what districts we should channel more forces and implement concrete measures. This will help us to efficiently plan the work. The people will also enjoy benefits as they will know the high risk areas and will thus act more prudently,” said Marin Maxian.

In the course of 2017, 21% of the recorded 32,000 offenses were committed by persons under the influence of alcohol. There were reported over 6,000 cases of driving under the influence. As a result, 26 persons died in road accidents caused by inebriated drivers.

At least 2,800 offenses committed while under the influence of alcohol were logged in Balti municipality. In Sangerei district, this figure stood at over 1,000. According to the interactive map, Leova district tops the rankings by the number of citizens who were under the supervision of narcologists in 2017 – minimum 1,700. This is followed by Cahul district with almost 1,500 persons, Calarasi district with over 1,300 and Ciadir-Lunga with 1,200.
