Police officers penalized over Straseni murder

The General Police Inspectorate said the sector officer of the Straseni Police Inspectorate was fired, while the sector chief and head of this Inspectorate’s Public Order Division received severe reprimands. Also, the chief of the Straseni Police Inspectorate was punished disciplinarily by being relegated by a special rank, IPN reports.

In a press release, the General Police Inspectorate says the penalties were imposed as a result of the completion of the internal inquiry into the actions taken by police officers of the Straseni Police Inspectorate in the case of the murder of the 14-year old girl, who was found dead at the end of last November.

At the beginning of last December, the General Police Inspectorate opened an internal inquiry to establish if police officers of the Straseni Police Inspectorate did their job promptly and immediately. In this connection, it is specified that regardless of the rank, status or post held, all the police employees will be penalized if they do not fulfill their duties and do not show responsibility, including by being fired.

A girl aged 14 was found dead in an unfinished building in Straseni town on November 30, 2016. The police identified four suspects, who are all minors. Two of these were arrested shortly after the commission of the crime and are held on remand. Another suspect is only 13 and cannot be prosecuted, while the fourth managed to feel Moldova, but was caught in Hungary and extradited on January 11, 2017.
