Police officer punished for attacking young man
An inspector of the Straseni Police Commissariat was held accountable for abusing his authority. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the police officer attacked a young man and tried to force him into a trunk, Info-Prim Neo reports.
It happened in November 2009 not far from Romanesti village of Straseni district. The inspector was driving a car when he was stopped by a young man, who asked him to take him home.
According to the prosecutors, the officer wasn’t on duty. After the young man got into the car, the policeman said he will take him elsewhere. Frightened, the man tried to run away, but the driver caught him and hit him and then tied his hands with a belt and wanted to force him into the truck. The victim managed to escape.
The Straseni Court gave the police officer two years’ probation.
The prosecutors intend to appeal the sentence as they consider it is too mild.
