Police officer of Botanica Police Inspectorate arrested for taking €2,500 bribe

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a police officer of the Botanica Police Inspectorate who is suspected of asking €3,500 from a man for helping him avoid punishment in a case started over hooliganism, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.

Legal proceedings against the denouncer were instituted after he had a fight with a man in front of a nightclub, as a result of which the victim was hospitalized with injuries. The police officer of the Botanica Police Inspectorate contacted the denouncer, asking €3,500 from him for classifying the act of hooliganism as contravention.

Last week, under the control of the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer transmitted the first part of the sum - €2,500. The money was passed on near a gas station in Chisinau and the case was documented with special means. As a result of searches carried out today, the policeman was arrested for 72 hours and legal action was taken against him.

If he is found guilty of passive corruption, he will serve a maximum jail term of ten years, will be banned from holding public posts and will be fined.
