Police officer jailed for raping minor girl

The police officer who a year ago sexually abused a minor girl from Orhei together with two co-villagers was sentenced to five years in jail for rape. The sentence given by the Orhei District Court can be challenged in a higher court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last July the culprits, who knew the victim, being at a disco party in Pelivan village, lured the girl into the car of one of these for taking her home. They abused the 16-year-old girl by physical and mental constraints in the presence of the police officer who was driving the car.

The prosecutors established that four days earlier the victim was sexually abused by the police officer, who invited her to a meeting on the pretext of having to examine a complaint. He raped her in his office at the Orhei Police Inspectorate.

In a week of the arrest of the two inhabitants of Vatici village on suspicion of rape, the police officer was also arrested on charges of rape and complicity in rape. He was acquitted for complicity in rape, but was convicted of rape. The prosecution intends to dispute the sentence and to demand that the policemen should be also sentenced for complicity in rape.

The police officer was discharged immediately after he was arrested and was under arrest until the judgement was passed.

The other two abusers last autumn were given four-year suspended sentences after they fully admitted guilt and asked to try the case based on the evidence collected at the investigation phase.
