An inspector of the Escort Service of the Floresti Police Inspectorate was fined 26,000 lei for acts of corruption and deprived of the right to hold public posts for a period of three years, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last April the inspector took two mobile phones and 400 lei from the relative of a detainee and transmitted them in secret to the prisoner. For this service, the policeman asked and received a mobile phone and 200 lei from the detainee.

The inspector was arrested when he received the next tranche of 500 lei, packs of cigarettes and other banned objects that he was to pass on to the detainee for a tax of 200 lei.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
