A lawyer and an investigation officer of the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of the Interior were arrested on suspicion of traffic of influence. The criminal case was started based on a complaint submitted to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the complainer said the two asked for money for influencing prosecutors and judges to hush up the criminal case started against his son.

It was established that the two asked and received €8 000 from the accused’s father for influencing the judge to release the young man from arrest and the prosecutor not to challenge this decision and then to reclassify the accused’s deeds as a minor offense.

The lawyer and the police officer were arrested for 72 hours initially. They face a fine of up to 80 000 lei or up to six years in jail.
