Police inspect schools to identify irregularities that could endanger student security

Several weeks before the beginning of the new school year, the police officers discovered at least 174 irregularities that could endanger students’ safety, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dumitru Rusu, deputy head of the General Public Order Division, told a news conference on Tuesday that a large part of the inspected schools do not have antifire equipment and fences that will delimit their territory and there are no road markings and signs near them. The shops located near education institutions are also a problem. As the legislation does not clearly say where the distance of 50 meters starts from, from the gate of the school or from the entrance to the block, there appear conflict situations, said Gheorghe Botnariuc, subunit head at the given division. There were identified 293 retail outlets located fewer than 50 meters from the entrance to the school or kindergarten, the official said. The police recommend the parents not to let the children go to school with jewels, expensive cell phones or other precious objects so as to avoid attacks on them.
