Police help archeologists discover Roman grave

Police officers of the Causeni Police Department took legal action after a resident of Tocuz village found a human skeleton while digging in his garden. Beside the skeleton, the police discovered two ceramic vessels and several other objects. Therefore, they informed the Archeology Section of the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova. During investigations, the specialists reached the conclusion that it is a complex from the Roman epoch, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the press service of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. The human skeleton was discovered at a depth of 1.5 meters. It was lying on the back with the head towards the North. A small ceramic mug was located near the head. Several crumbling objects were found next to the neck, while close to the legs, there was a grayish ceramic vessel larger than that located beside the head. Examining the teeth, which kept rather well, archeologists Alexandru Levinschi and Valeriu Bubulici, of the National Museum of Archeology and History, established that it was a woman younger than 35. They also determined that the grave was part of a large plane necropolis. “The position of the skeleton and the objects discovered near it show that it is a grave from the Roman epoch that belonged to a nomad community of Iranian origin,” the communiqué says. The Moldovan archeologists say the grave in Tocuz could be a grave of nomad Sarmatians that controlled a large part of the area to the east of the Carpathians while the Romans had been in Dacia. The specialists are very curious who that woman who died young was and what role she played in the nomad community of Iranian origin. The archeologists said the police officers fulfilled their duties very well in investigating this extraordinary case.
