A man from Chisinau was arrested on suspicion that he smuggled mercury on September 29.The arrest was made at the intersection of the Chisinau streets Banulescu Bodoni and Stefan cel Mare, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 54-year-old man is a resident of Chisinau. In his car the police found about 7 kg of mercury that was to be sold to foreigners for €10,000.
Prosecutors will charge the man and will ask the court to issue a warrant for his arrest.
The man faces up to ten years in jail for smuggling and violation of the rules of circulation of radioactive, bacteriological or toxic substances, materials and waste.
