More than US$74,000, jewelry, old coins and objects made from precious metals were found in the personal baggage of two citizens of the Russian Federation and a Moldovan citizen at the Chisinau International Airport with the help of X-ray devices. The men didn’t have accompanying documents for any of these objects and didn’t declare the money, IPN reports.
According to the Border Police, the Moldovan said he bought the precious items from the U.S. not long ago. He intends to move to the UK and thus took all the necessary things with him.
In another episode, two passengers of the St Petersburg-Chisinau-Antalya flight were in transit through Moldova and left the airport to visit Chisinau. The airport’s police found US$74,550 on them when searching them on their return. Asked about the money, they said they were in transit and forgot to declare the money.
The cases were referred to the Customs Service for examination.
