Dental implants and items for dental prostheses, as well as dentistry equipment estimated at 3 million lei were smuggled into Moldova. According to the police, the organizer and beneficiary is a Turkish citizen who acted in complicity with Moldovan citizens, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said that the smuggling scheme had been employed since 2017 until recently. The Moldovan citizens involved ensured the passage of goods through customs checkpoints, bringing them into the country bypassing customs inspection.
The items imported from Turkey were fraudulently introduced into Moldova through Leuseni customs checkpoint and the Chisinau International Airport. Subsequently the would be sold to private dental clinics at lower prices than the official ones.
The police apprehended three Moldovans and one Turkish citizen, with ages ranging from 28 to 61 years. If convicted, they face 3 to 10 years in prison.
