Four men were arrested on suspicion that they committed at least ten thefts of catalytic converters of Mitsubishi cars. The damage caused to the car owners was estimated at 250,000 lei, IPN reports.

The four suspects are aged between 20 and 30 and had been earlier tried for hooliganism and swindle.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the young men stole catalytic converters from exhaust pipes. The police followed them for two weeks and collected evidence to prove their blame in ten cases of theft committed in the capital city.

As a result of searches at suspects’ homes and in their cars, the police found the stolen converters that were to be sold.

The suspects were remanded in custody for 30 days and face up to four years in jail for theft.
