Police arrest author of false bomb alert at Chisinau City Hall
The man who informed that a bomb was planted at the City Hall was arrested by the police together with his accomplice, General Police Commissariat spokesman Adrian Jovmir has told Info-Prim Neo.
The suspect, 26, is native of Ocnita district. According to the police, the young man bought a mobile phone and a new phone card in order to make a false bomb threat. When he phoned, he was at the Railway Terminal in Chisinau. After calling, he threw the phone and went to Ocnita.
The man was arrested on the night to Saturday for 72 hours. The police also arrested a 27-year-old man from Soroca who is suspected of taking part in planning the hoax, but he does not admit his guilt.
The man from Ocnita said he was drunk and does not remember how he phoned the City Hall and how he demanded that the presidential decree to declare June 28 as the Soviet Occupation Fay be abolished. He has a criminal record. At the age of 16, he was convicted of theft.
On June 29, the Chisinau City Hall was evacuated and cordoned off after a Russian-speaking man called at 1:20pm Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca's antechamber to announce that one of the rooms in the building had been planted with a bomb. The man demanded that Acting President Mihai Ghimpu repeal the controversial decree on the Soviet Occupation Day. Otherwise, his nephew Dorin Chirtoaca would be hurt.
The young man is liable to a fine of 4 000 to 10,000 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or up to two years’ imprisonment.
