Poland will continue to firmly support Moldova’s European cause and will provide assistance so that the country achieves its development and modernization objectives, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said after a meeting with Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti. The two officials held a joint news conference, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
Bronislaw Komorowski spoke about Poland’s decentralization experience, which can be useful to Moldova for developing the principle of self-government in different regions of the country. He voiced hope that the successes achieved by Moldova at internal and external levels will strengthen the people’s confidence in the correctness of the country’s European course.
Nicolae Timofti said Moldova is going through a very significant stage of its European course. The coming weeks and months will bring the events that are long awaited by the Moldovans – the liberalization of the visa regime and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. “These are successes to which you contributed by political support and solidarity, by sharing the Polish experience that you gained during the 25 years of successful transformation and modernization,” he stated.
The Moldovan head of state pleaded for developing the Moldovan-Polish partnership by implementing commercial-economic, social and cultural projects. “By common efforts, we will manage to strengthen the irreversible European course of Moldova so that we are together in the large, united, stable and prosperous European family. We count on Poland’s support in continuation,” said Nicolae Timofti.
On his trip to Poland, Nicolae Timofti is accompanied by First Lady Margareta Timofti. The head of state will have meetings with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Seim Marshal Ewa Kopacz and Chairman of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz.
