Poetry soirees at “Cartier” publishing house open with Marcela Benea

The publishing house “Cartier” launched a new project to promote contemporary Romanian poetry in Moldova titled “Poetry Soirees”. The literary event started with the performance of poet Marcela Benea and other well-known poets, Info-Prim Neo reports. Every poetry evening is dedicated to an author that invites relatives and friends. “It is important that this human chain of poets does never break,” said the editor-in-chief of “Cartier” Emilian Galaicu-Paun, who was the emcee of the evening. “We thought that the library is a live space that should witness not only book launches and debates, but also poetry recitals,” Emilian Galaicu-Paun said. The poet also said that he hopes these poetry soirees will become traditional as the book launches with author, translator or editor at “Cartier”. “I hope that these soirees can bring together a creative intellectuality around certain idea and artistic feelings that could make us forget that we live in a time when they discuss only about politics and will add artistic dimension to these years when there are not only elections and debates but also artistic creations. They create in Chisinau. Chisinau is a city where poetry, literature and music live,” Emilian Galaicu-Paun said. The poet of the evening, Marcela Benea, made her debut in 1974 with Grigore Vieru’s blessing. The volume “Zestre” (“Dowry”) appeared in Cyrillic script. The second book “Zestre” came out after 14 years, in 1988, in Latin script. Twenty years later, in 2008, there was published her last poetry book “Evadare din Fresca” (“Evasion from Fresco”). “Marcela Benea is absolutely exceptional in our literature. The fact that we start the poetry evening with her means that we bring back the forgotten poetry and important poets where they belong,” said Emilian Galaicu-Paun. The special invitees of Marcela Benea were poets Andrei Burac, Teo Chiriac, Dumitru Crudu, Ion Hadarca, Irina Nechit and others. “In this period of time after Whitsunday until June 15, when the poems becomes eternal and battles are fought though books and on shelves and in the assembly hall of the Parliament between our true troubles and their untrue troubles, the language of strawberry and cherries in Marcela Benea’s poems will ultimately impose itself,” said Teo Chiriac. Ion Hadarca confessed that he was overwhelmed by the purity of language in the poet’s poems. “Marcela reconfirms the femininity in poems. I have the impression that we did not have a more integral poet after Magda Isanos,” the poet said. After half an hour of recital, Marcela Benea said that she has never recited poems in a library. “I am extremely honored to open these poetry soirees and hope that these recitals will be endless as poetry is,” she said The poetry soirées are held at the Centru Library in Chisinau. Entrance is free of charge.
