The candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Alexandra Can promises she will make sure the inhabitants of Chisinau have a better life if she is elected mayor. On May 7, Alexandra Can presented her electoral program that is planned for a period of five years. This contains nine priorities and refers to the modernization of the city, improvement of the management and decisional-making process at the City Hall and development of relations with the neighboring Romanian cities, IPN reports.
If she is chosen mayor, the PNL candidate will support the development of the cultural and economic relations between Chisinau and Iasi by designing and implementing investment projects. She will also ensure the conversion of remittances into investments through the program “Bringing the Diaspora Home”. She will create a Moldovan-Romanian business and investment cooperation center in the city with the assistance of the development partners, agritourism and technological industrial parks and incubators.
The candidate for mayoralty aims to gradually eliminate road transport from the historical part of the city and to build cycling tracks, ramps for wheelchairs and a belt road around Chisinau. She will also apply the “polluter pays” principle and will promote the introduction of the program “Young Farmer” in schools. If decisions with an impact need to be taken, she will stage public consultations and local referendums.
Alexandra Can said she will institute a charity fund for protecting the socially disfavored categories of people, especially pensioners with incomes lower than 1,500 lei. She will make sure that the persons with disabilities and disadvantaged persons receive social assistance at home. The fighting of vagrancy and begging on the streets of Chisinau is another priority of the candidate.
According to the PNL candidate, the suggested program is realistic and accomplishable. If she is elected mayor, she will be an honest and active functionary who will put to good use her experience in managing the affairs in the city. The party she represents will plead for consolidating the democratic, reformist efforts aimed at the West, which is at Romania, Europe and the United States. The citizens need a mayor who would unite, not divide.
PNL president Vitalia Pavlichenko said citizens’ confidence in politicians and parties should be restored in Chisinau and all over Moldova, while Alexandra Can was and remains a consistent politician and a Romanian unionist fighter. She is a good specialist with experience of manager, organizer and economist who can foster the development of the capital city.
Alexandra Can is under No. 8 on the ballot. New local mayoral elections in Chisinau and Balti will take place on May 20.
