PNL and MAE merger will not happen

The Congress of joining the National Liberal Party (PNL) with the European Action Movement (MAE), planned for May 9, on Europe’s Day, will not happen, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vitalia Pavlicenco, the PNL ex-president, has told Info-Prim that the second congress of the PNL will take place on May 9, in order to “re-institutionalize” the party. “We initially relied on another political situation after the elections. Now we cannot speak about a merger, because first we need to create the structures of the party,” Pavlicenco said. “We are open for cooperation with other anti-Communist parties. We shall plead for creating an European and anti-Communist front,” Vitalia Pavlicenco added, specifying that another priority of the PNL would b also be preparing for the local elections. Anatol Petrencu, the MAE leader, reiterated that his party remains open for the merger. “We want to make a pro-European pole and I believe that only a sincere and real unification of the parties can change the situation in the country,” Petrencu opined. The PNL and the MAE participated with a single electoral list in the 2009 parliamentary elections, getting 1.01% of votes.
