Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet had a meeting with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. The foreign official reiterated the UN’s readiness to provide assistance to Moldova in areas that are within its competence, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Ban Ki-moon spoke about the recent adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals post-2015, voicing hope that the Government of Moldova will take firm steps to implement these.
Valeriu Strelet underlined the important role played by the UN agencies and programs in the development process in Moldova. Referring to the post-2015 UN development agenda that is based on three interconnected pillars: economic, social and environmental, he said an important step was taken in advancing the global development efforts.
The interlocutors also conferred on the regional security situation and the developments in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, noting the relevance of the UN confidence building project.
