PM Chicu: Without broad consensus in society, success of justice sector reform cannot be ensured

Without a broad consensus in society about the justice sector reform bill, the success of the given reform cannot be ensured, stated Prime Minister Ion Chicu. According to him, it there is no agreement as to how important the reform is and if some of the representatives of society  try to gain political benefits over this issue, problems will be probably encountered in doing it, IPN reports.

Premier Chicu noted he discussed the justice sector reform bill with the group of experts of the EU who are now in Moldova, in particular the assessment of judges and prosecutors. The foreign experts recommended ensuring a broad consensus on the given issue in society.

“The recommendation of these experts who came to the Republic of Moldova is that, to ensure the success of this reform, the document should not only be submitted by the Government, but a broad consensus should be reached in society,” the official stated in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

Ion Chicu said the Government will do its best to ensure this consensus in society. “I hope there is responsibility and wisdom to understand how important this document is and some of the politicians should leave speculations aside. The Government does not aim to be the owner and author of the bill,” he stated.

He also said that he invited resident ambassadors to take part in the analysis of the justice sector reform document.
