Pluvial drainage channels on Haltei and Tabacaria Veche streets to be cleaned

The works to clean the pluvial drainage channels on Haltei and Tabacaria Veche streets began. Visiting the site on Friday, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that if the channels are cleaned, the water will no more accumulate in the Railway Terminal square and the yards of the people living nearby during rain, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The fact that the Chisinau administration won the tender contest to implement this project from EU funds shows that we can count on European support in continuation. The Chisinau City Hall was the only institution that won this project among the countries covered by the Eastern Partnership. It is evident that if the Europeans had not allocated money, these channels would have been cleaned with municipal funds, but manually and the process would have lasted longer,” he said. Speranta Olaru, project manager of the European Union Delegation, said more funds will be disbursed to the municipality of Chisinau and districts of Moldova within projects aimed at ensuring a clean environment. The works will be performed by the municipal company “Edilitate” SA, which was selected by tender contest. They will close by November. The project launched by the local authorities with European financing will have two stages. At the first stage, three will be cleaned the channels in the Railway Terminal square and on the streets Haltei and Tabacaria Veche. Afterward, there will be built a water storage facility near the Railway Terminal. The budget of the project is over 1 million euros. The pluvial drainage channels on Haltei and Tabacaria Veche streets have not been cleaned for 30 years.
