PLR suggests giving Moldovans from abroad two voting days

The Liberal Reforming Party (PLR) registered a legislative initiative with amendments to the Electoral Code. It proposes that the Moldovans from the diaspora should be allowed to vote during two days, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the party.

According to the authors of the initiative, the number of Moldovans who have the residence or domicile abroad rises from year to year. In 2013, there were over 500,000 Moldovans abroad, which is 12.4% of the country’s population.

The settlements where they live are situated at different distances from the towns where Moldova has embassies. Owing to the long distance that they must cover and to the travel expenses and the inflexible work program, the Moldovans from abroad do not manage to exercise their right to vote.

Among the countries that adopted permissive electoral laws for the external vote of the diaspora are France, Argentine, Austria, and the United States.
