The Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) requested Head of Parliament Igor Corman to propose Parliament to dismiss the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu. The request was made in the May 16 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.
Co-chairwoman of the PLR Ana Gutu said the party is deeply concerned about the situation created in the economic and financial sectors. “The fraudulent involvement of resident banks and courts in the laundering of over US$18 billion coming from Russia, according to the information made public by the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, is very serious,” she stated.
According to her, these dubious transactions were performed with the tacit consent of state institutions, including the National Bank. This seriously affects the credibility of the banking system and of the Moldovan state. “The National Bank’s consent to selling an important shareholding in Banca de Economii of Moldova to Russia’s state bank Vneshekonombank is inadmissible. The fact that the Russian Government was allowed to control the only Moldovan bank with state capital runs counter to the national interests and to Moldova’s European course,” said Ana Gutu, adding that by such an act the central bank allowed Moscow and the affiliated oligarchs to control Moldova’s financial security.
