The MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), who subscribed to the bill to amend the Broadcasting Code, will withdraw their signatures and the PLDM will soon put forward its own relevant bill, the party’s leader PLDM Vlad Filat announced, quoted by IPN.
“We will take steps to immediately convene a working group involving all those who can contribute to drafting a balanced bill that will solve the problems faced in the broadcasting sector, not will worsen them. I hope that in a very short period, we will propose such a bill in Parliament so as to ensure the security of the broadcasting sector and to prevent the brutal interference in the internal affairs of Moldova, by influencing its internal policy,” stated Vlad Filat.
The bill to amend the Broadcasting Code, proposed by the Liberal-Democratic and Democratic MPs, caused a wave of criticism on the part of media MGOs and some of the political players. The NGOs warned that some of the provisions of this bill leave room for interpretations and abuses and could generate interminable court trials centering on the freedom of expression. They asked holding sufficient public debates so as to identify solutions that would give coherence and a democratic character to the legal provisions.
