PLDM will continue to support Dorin Chirtoaca in second round
The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) will continue to support Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round of the mayoral elections so as to promote the democratic course of Chisinau. The party’s president Vlad Filat voiced hope that the colleagues from the ruling alliance will also throw support to the Liberal-Democrat candidates in the settlements where they will compete with representatives of the Communist Party, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The statement was made in a press briefing after Vlad Filat had a meeting with the heads of the party’s local organizations and PLDM lawmakers and ministers to sum up the results obtained in the June 5 local elections.
Vlad Filat urged his party colleagues to mobilize and do their utmost so as to achieve the best result possible in the settlements that will hold the second round of voting. “The current election campaign, in which we took part for the first time, was difficult. Great pressure was exerted on us. However, the PLDM managed to cope with all the challenges and remained a united and powerful team,” said Vlad Filat.
A number of 119 mayors representing the PLDM were elected by one round. Another 289 Liberal-Democrat candidates will compete in the second round of voting. “We are satisfied with the result scored. We have the largest number of elected mayors. Many of my colleagues have real chances of emerging victories in the second round,” said the leader of the PLDM.
The second round of voting will take place on June 19.
