The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) in a press statement says that by signing the Association Agreement, the Republic of Moldova took a great step towards achieving its national objective. After many years of accomplishments and failures, Moldova associated itself with a unique economic and political partnership – the European Union, IPN reports.

“The association with the European Union and the creation of a Free Trade Area make Moldova’s development as a European, competitive and democratic state irreversible. Today we entered a new stage of integration into the European economic and political area. We are now more determined to implement the European standards in Moldova to ensure equitable competition, a high quality of life, the rule of law and free economy,” reads the PLDM’s statement.

The party says the two promises – to sign an Association Agreement with the EU and to obtain the right to travel visa-free in Europe – were fulfilled and the Moldovan people are very close to benefitting from European living conditions: more jobs, higher salaries, increased trade and investments, more freedom of movement, and more opportunities for young people and women.

In order to meet these conditions, the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova will step up efforts for fully and swiftly implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement so that Moldova obtains the status of accession candidate by 2017 and becomes a fully-fledged member of the EU in 2020.
