PLDM suggests setting new date of presidential elections within 30 days
The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) considers that when the presidential elections are invalidated, the legislative body should set a new date within 30 days. A relevant bill was put forward by the Liberal-Democrat lawmaker Tudor Deliu.
The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities examined the bill in its November 30 meeting. The Liberal and Democrat MPs abstained from voting, while the Communist ones voted against it, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Tudor Deliu said he will insist that the bill be debated in Parliament. “A term must be set. If proposals are submitted in Parliament as regards the length, I will possibly accept some of them,” he stated.
The legislature earlier passed a bill to amend the procedure for electing the head of state in first reading. Under this bill proposed by the Liberal group, the public sitting where the head of state is elected and the presidential elections must be considered valid only if at least 61 MPs or 3/5 of the lawmakers take part in them. If the number is lower, it is considered that the elections did not take place.
