PLDM says PAS’s position ‘hasty, regrettable’

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) says the position of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) is “hasty, regrettable and lacking political vision,” after PAS rejected PLDM’s proposal to have an electoral bloc which would also include the Dignity and Truth Platform (PDA) and agree on a common presidential candidate.

“PLDM considers that the reasons put forward by PAS are irrelevant in the current political context. A designated candidate does not yet mean a registered candidate. According to the legislation, there is still enough time to create electoral blocs. Experience shows that when there is political will, one can act with more discernment and responsibility, as it happened in the 2016 presidential campaign, when the registered candidate Andrei Năstase withdrew from the race in favor of Maia Sandu just 15 days before the election”, PLDM said in a statement.

According to PLDM, “it remains to be seen whether arrogance and egoism will be the most convincing traits in the upcoming races.”

The party also praised PDA for taking a “politically correct” stance on the proposal to create a common electoral bloc.

PAS responded to PLDM’s proposal by saying that it’s “belated and without a future” and that it has already picked its leader Maia Sandu as presidential candidate. Without accepting the invitation, PDA responded by complaining that it had pleaded for unity on numerous occasions but nobody listened.
