PLDM refuses again to examine PL’s initiative to amend law on status of Chisinau municipality

The head of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu is angry with his colleagues from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) because they refused to consider amending the law on the status of the municipality of Chisinau. “We will vote in the same way as you vote,” Mihai Ghimpu said in the Parliament’s sitting after the Liberal-Democrat MPs did not vote in favor of including the PL’s initiative in the agenda, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Ghimpu expressed his indignation at the fact that in his address to the people, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the leader of the PLDM, spoke about reforms, but his colleagues in Parliament do nothing to promote them. “Why don’t you vote for the bill proposed by the PL? Do you make reforms like this? The Liberal Party will vote as you vote. We will not vote for laws pursuing certain interests. It is not a reform when a person representing a party is replaced with a person representing another party,” said Mihai Ghimpu. PLDM lawmaker Iurie Tap replied that the accusations made by the PL are unfounded and that when the commission for decentralization was created last year, they proposed adjusting the law on the status of Chisinau municipality, but the Liberal MPs did not attend the meeting. The leader of the Liberal-Democratic group Valeriu Strelet said the bill proposed by the PL promotes personal interests and suggested that it should be discussed first in a meeting of the AEI Council. The amendments proposed by the PL give the mayor general the exclusive right to name and dismiss division heads, without consulting the Chisinau Municipal Council. For the first time, the Liberal Party put forward the given legislative initiative in the July 8 sitting, but the PLDM refused to include it in the agenda.
